Essential makeup tools – how to look after them
There are essential beauty tools that you will need however seriously you take your makeup. Here we take a look at these essentials, how they are used and how you can make sure they are safe, cleaned and sanitised before and after use.
Powder brush
We all have a favourite, faithful powder brush we probably use every day. The best ones can be used to evenly and carefully distribute just the right amount of powder over your face to create your desired look. Don’t forget to clean in between every use for maximum hygiene.
How to use
Pick up a fine layer of loose powder by carefully manoeuvring the brush’s bristles. Make sure you remember to tap off any excess powder.
Fix the makeup by moving the brush quickly and evenly over your face.
Add contour, as required, by swishing the brush into your contour powder then gently gliding the brush back and forth targeting below the cheekbones, and the jawline and along the hairline.
To apply blusher, lightly swirl the product onto your cheeks and blend up into your cheekbones.
How to clean
In between every application use our Antibacterial Quick Dry Brush Cleaning Spray, which cleans and sanitises your makeup brushes with just a simple, single spray.
For a twice weekly deep clean to remove built up residue use our Antibacterial Deep Cleanse Sponge & Brush Wash, in addition to cleaning brushes it will extend their life and keep them in tip top condition.
Once cleaned gently squeeze out excess moisture from bristles and let to dry naturally flat and ideally with the brush head open to the air 360 degrees (over the edge of a clean towel is good)!
Looking after your makeup brushes is as important as knowing how to use them
Makeup sponges are a real time saver, but make sure they are cleaned and sanitised between each and every use
Blender sponge
What would you do without your humble makeup blender sponge? It’s simple but an absolute beauty essential, whether you’re a top professional makeup artist or just touching up your everyday look. The secret is in the way the shaped sponge absorbs water rather than makeup product. Use it in conjunction with concealer, foundation and creams, to perfect a streak-free, flawless finish.
This teardrop shaped sponge absorbs water rather than product, so your foundation, concealer, BB cream etc. will last even longer. Using a bouncing technique, the top of the sponge hugs the contours of the face and covers blemishes whilst the bottom flawlessly blends makeup over larger areas. Perfecting for achieving that natural, streak-free finish, beautyblender has been dubbed a modern-day phenomenon, and we totally agree.
How to use
Dampen the sponge and squeeze out.
Use a lightly bouncing technique to pad makeup onto your face then blending by patting carefully.
How to clean
Clean and sanitise between each and every use to remove built up residue and get rid of any masty germs with our Antibacterial Deep Cleanse Sponge & Brush Wash, in addition to cleaning sponges it will also keep them in good condition.
Once cleaned squeeze out excess moisture and let dry naturally.
Eyelash curler
Killer lashes require a killer eyelash curler and we all have a personal preference or go to curler in our beauty kit. A good curler will create length and volume without you having to go crazy on your oh so expensive mascara. Newer curler designs look less like instruments of torture and are less embarrassing to stash in your makeup bag, they should also be super easy to use, lifting and curling every lash (even those short, stubborn ones) for superior mascara application and a fantastic eye-tacular look.
How to use
Open the curler and place over your eyelashes.
Then squeeze and gently pump the curler for a few seconds.
Open and take the curler away.
How to clean
Use our Antibacterial Quick Dry Beauty Tools Sanitiser Spray that cleans and sanitises hard beauty tools with a simple spray and wipe action.
Your curler will be dry and ready to curl again after just two minutes.

Tweezers
You’ll always need a pair of tweezers. Whilst pretty basic as implements go, they are peerless when it comes to precisely plucking unwanted hairs. It’s worth investing in a quality, stainless steel pair with an angled, sharp end so you can easily and expertly shape, tame and transform your brows.
How to use
Firstly, open your pores to make any plucking easier and less painful. Try a hot shower or simply use a warm wet cloth.
Tweeze in the direction of hair growth to avoid breakage.
Use cold water to close your pores after plucking.
